NFF CEO Simon Talbot said the submission provides nine recommendations to help modernise telecommunications, aimed at improving quality, accessibility, affordability and reliability of broadband and telephone services in the bush.

Queensland Farmers’ Federation Welcomes Electricity Price Respite

The Queensland Farmers FederationThe Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF) has welcomed yesterday’s Queensland Competition Authority determination on electricity prices, which will bring price relief to some in the State’s agriculture sector after spiralling increases over the past five years. The reductions in tariffs are largely the result of the reductions in network costs following the decision of the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) to fix revenue levels that the networks are allowed to recover. The AER cut 30% from the revenue target that Ergon was seeking.

South Australian No-Till Farmers Association There have been many technological advances in broadacre farming over the last decade. Reduced tillage systems have been a key part of this change, however the adoption of these changes for many farmers has not been altogether smooth. The South Australian No-Till Farmers Association (SANTFA) is a non-profit farmer driven organisation that is led by a committee of volunteers. SANTFA has, over its seven years of growth, successfully promoted the benefits of no-till farming systems and conservation farming in general and now has over 1000 financial members across South Australia.

Onshore Gas Moratorium Must Stay, Says VFF

The Victorian Farmers FederationVICTORIA’s peak farmer lobby will call for the current moratorium on the exploration and extraction of gas to be extended until at least 2020, at a Parliamentary inquiry in Melbourne today. “Our members’ greatest fear is that onshore gas developments could put at risk the state’s precious groundwater reserves,” Victorian Farmers Federation Land Management Committee chairman Gerald Leach said. “We ran an onshore gas survey that showed 47 per cent of VFF respondents identified water as their key concern in regard to the impacts of onshore gas extraction.
